An Advertisement ([London], c.1670).
This sheet published by John Newton of London advertises a method he had developed to survey and value ‘all Sorts of Timber, Wood, and Bark, standing and growing.’
He also undertook ‘Conversions and Improvements of Land, according to the newest Methods now us’d in England for growing Corn, Hops, Fruit of all Kinds, seeds of all Sorts for raising Pasture and Hay on poor Land’.
The fact that the address (three lines from the bottom of the sheet) at which one could contact John Newton was left blank might suggest that he travelled around Britain and Ireland with a stack of pre-printed advertisements, and that his local contact details would be written in whenever he arrived in a town or village.
