Johannes Scultetus, Armamentarium chirurgicum (Amsterdam, 1662)
Medical books were often annotated heavily by readers and this copy has notes and corrections added throughout, both to the text and plates. Many of the notes were subsequently crossed out. Here, Scultetus is illustrating various forceps for the mouth and likening them to birds’ beaks. However, a reader has crossed out one illustration, suggested three replacement instruments, and added his own detailed notes into the book.
