Invoices for repair of bullet damage to Marsh’s Library
The Library came under rifle fire throughout Easter Week but significant damage was inflicted only on the morning of Sunday 30 April, when a British army machine-gun sprayed the building with bullets.
Repair work to the Library was first undertaken by John Flanagan & Co., whose handwritten invoices list bullet repairs among general upkeep of the library.
Further repairs were provided by James Gibson & Son, who were responsible for ‘repairing bullet holes in doors’. This repair work is still visible in the entrance door today.
